Weekend gone Wine

After an other busy weekend, it's Monday again.. It was one of these Monday mornings, were I wished that I had at least one more day off. It just feel like I haven't done much. Part from going out and being social that is. And due to Saturday, Sunday was a no-day.. I spent most of my day in the sofa, zombilised.. Frenzying on chips and other fatty substances that comes bottled and baged up. Unable to do much else than zapping around on the TV..

Weekend started nice and jolly on Friday, meeting my mom up after work. I took her home for some wine and pizza. Lucky me was given three wine bottles on Wednesday, after working a few hours extra as a bartender at work. The computers in the front desk were moved, to make room for a bar. For the house warming party that we had for the companies customers. Since we didn't get as many red wine drinkers as we thought we would, we were left with a few opened and full bottles. We split the bottles and a happy me could pull home three lovely bottles of red.. Johiiii!!

They were all consumed with the excellent company, of my mom and my love on Friday. My man had set the table, pizza in the oven. Red wine and cake waiting.. Quite the house husband:) Also dad came by and stayed for a while, before they headed home with a taxi! It was really nice to have them both over and spend some time together. Since we don't have the biggest place, we don't tend to have to many dinner guests.. Having said that, I'm not sure if frozen pizza count as a "real" dinner though..? But who cares, as long as it tastes good;) I love pizza!!

Story to be continued..

Pre iPhone

Remember these lovelies!? Way back then, a whole lifetime before everyone got attached to each their little cell phone. The telephones were chunky, shapely and with a rotary dialer! Not to mention the sound of the dialer going round and the cozy ring tone *sigh*.. One piece of nostalgica perfect!

I can't entirely forgive my mom for throwing away my red Cobra Phone, given to me by my grandma many years ago. To my mom it was a piece of junk, to me it was a piece of art..

Must find an other one! Even if they're a little expencive nowadays.. It doesn't matter if it works or not, it can just stand there and look awsome:)

Childhood Memories...

As every Christmas, I was looking through the old family photos at my parents.. When it hit me; why not take some photos of my favourites, so I can look at them any time I like! I love flipping through the pages of the albums, it's like being transported back to my childhood.. So many memories with each and every caption. Except for the ones where I'm really young of course, like the kitchen weight..;) But I remember quite far back, for some reason. Down to a few itsy parts from my first year to more of my second, and so on.. I know some people don't remember anything from their first years...

A new born me, on the kitchen scale..

Stina and Tor-Finn, on the captions below, was my first best friends in life.. They lived in the appartment house next to ours, on the outskirts of Oslo, in my tiny little world at that time. We lost contact when we were still little kids, both their families moved away from the area where we grew up. My family stayed. Well, that's allmost true, we moved back after two years in Canada. When they decided to move. I had some contact with Stina during the first couple of years at school, but the distance made it hard to contain contact at that age.

Today I still have contact with a few of my childhood friends, but not Stina and Tor-Finn. Maybe we would have, if they didn't move away? People from the first years of your life tend to stick around. They become allmost like extra siblings later in life, at least that's my experience..

I sometimes wonder where they might be and what they are doing.. Even in our internet times, I haven't been able to seek them out. It could be fun to know, just to see that they're ok at least. Maye some day...

After fixing and adjusting some of the aged and yellowed colors a bit. I decided to make polaroids of a few of the photos.. Check out my Flickr album, if you want to see more of my digitalized, childhood memories:)

What is your favourite childhood memories? Do you still have contact with your first childhood buddies, or did you loose touch with them as time has passed by?

Valentines Gift and Inspirational Source

While I was at it, I also got a few books on tattoing and tattoos on Amazon.com. Sailor Jerry Collins - American Tattoo Master and Mitch O'connell: Tattoos. Mainly for my man which is all serious about picking up his tattoo machine again. To refine his techniques and hopefully get into a tattoo shop somewhere! I'm cheering on the line and hoping for the best. It's something he truly burns for and I know how much it means to him to do something he love doing.. Hopefully they'll arrive in time for Valentines, or our two years anniversary 28th of February, if they don't make it here before!

I also want them as a source of inspiration. To flip through the pages and look at all the different styles and beautiful artwork! I especially love the old school, Sailor Jerry style.. The simple, classic, nice look to it. But also the more colorful, cartoonish and fun style of Mitch O'connell!

Best of all, my love will be learning me how to tattoo and let me try it out on him to touch up his work! Johiiii, for that!! Very excited and a bit nervous.. We're waiting for the machine to arrive from the US, colors and other things he needs to get started. We've also ordered a load of tattoo practice skin, so I should be good enough to try on him by the time I've worked myself down the pile;)

Some sweet ol' Sailor Jerry work!!
(Hopefully) all these lovelies are to be found in this book!

Marilyn Monroe Personal

The newest additon to my book collection

After reading the review on this book at The Marilyn Monroe Collection blog, I just had to get this gem of a book! Soon to be published, it's the newest book out about the wonderful glam kitten, legend, diva and girl next door, Marilyn Monroe. The title of the book is MM Personal, and not without reason.. It contains photos of her personal files and documents. Her correspondence with friends, telegrams, receipts, her personal items, and also art that she phurchased before her death... I can't wait for it to dump down my mailbox and maybe learn something new about the person behind the icon:) The book can be pre-ordered on Amazon.com.

Lost in The Jungle

Most of last Sunday was spent joining tiny jewelery parts together into small creations. Swearing when I broke the tiniest, unwieldy parts and had to do it all over again, then cheering and clapping myself on the shoulder when it went well. Wishing I had tiny, little, chinese fingers instead of these big, norwegian sausages lol.. It's really escentual with good tools, but also a good portion of stubborness and determination! Hopefully I'll have my shop on Etsy in not too long.

I've been spending the last days searching for a nice shop design, an important step on the way. I have to find a design which look good with my crafts and also the shop name. Not the easiest in the jungle of designs, I feel a bit lost. You should think there's plenty to choose from. There is. But so far, not exactly what I've been picturing..

I'm starting to think I might have to get it custom designed, even if it means that it will cost a bit more it might be worth it in the long run.. Maybe I'm being too picky? Or maybe it's time to bring a bottle of wine over to my friend Melissa at Ideas To steal, to receive the help that I've been offered..

What would you do.. Go for the cheaper design for now, or get it right from the start?

Bringing you an other tiny peek at my creations..

Colleague Surprise

Friday we had a house warming party at work, as we just moved to a new location.. The best part of the evening was the house band. As I soon discovered, we have some really good musicians at work! They rocked the roof off the office, like they've never done anything else. This is people that normally shuffle paper around their desk. Well, I guess it helps that they all play in a band in the spare time.. But it's not like they're living off it. It's wonderful to discover this creativity and get to know my colleagues in a different way than I usually see them. To see that there's allways new things to learn about people you thought you knew.. I'm not sure if it's me that needs to listen better, or maybe I didn't dig deep enough in the conversations. Spite of that we see each other every day and spend most of our awake time during a week at work. Some people even spend more time with their colleagues than their family, but when it boils down to it, how much do we really know about each other?

How well do you think you know your colleagues?

Scary Flexible Sisters

A wonderful, sweet and crazy video clip from the 1944 movie "Broadway Rhythm". It starts out rather inocent and like any other 1940's movie tune, but hang in there, things will get veird.. And veirder. It's jaw dropping how the Ross Sisters Aggie, Maggie and Elmira can bend and twist their bodies. All in very mysterious ways, while they sing off course. If I only knew half of it, I would probably be world champion in yoga..

Part from how scary flexible this young girls are, the song has been stuck on my mind ever since I found it around Christmas.. Thought it was by time I pass it on;)

Hoot Hooooot...

Believe me, I would be the first one to understand why someone would want an owl of their very own.. But the thought of keeping these beautiful and majestic birds, trapped in little cages for selfish reasons, is just horrible and more cruel than I can put into words! They should be out there, flying free, hunting mice and whatever else an owl does.. Shame on you!! I'll keep my admiration on a distance and leave them to mother nature, where they belong and maybe buy myself an owl item or two;)

Here's a few owl items that I have collected in my favourites on Etsy over the last few months... Most of them is still available in the stores they're from:)

The God of Death..

The Aztecs and Mayans considered the owl a symbol of death and destruction, and the Aztec god of death was often pictured as an owl.. I can understand why the superstitious indians believed that the owl had these powers, as it's a creature thats mainly hunting at night. With it's yellow, piercing eyes and the spooky hoot, it must have sent a chill down their spine out there in the rain forest. Though there's other creatures in the rain forest I would have found more frightening myself.. In Mexico they have an old saying that they still use "When the owl cries, the Indian dies"...

It's interesting how the same beliefs is found among the Ho-Chunk, a Native American tribe from Wisconsin, USA. It seems that indian cultures all over the world has much of the same beliefs and traditions, so maybe not so veird after all.. They have always had a very different outlook and closer connection to mother nature than what the westernes had..

il_570xN_175379834

While the indians considered the owl as something that brings or stand for evil, in the western culture people has for a long time associated owls with wisdom. This goes as far back as to the ancient greeks, where the godess of wisdom, Athena had the owl as a symbol.

I have to say that for me the owl is a magnificant creature and one of my favourite animals, or birds I guess I should say.. If they beholds great wisdom or not, I don't know. But they sure look smarter than an average sparrow and way cooler the way they can turn their heads around;) I lean towards favouring the ancient greek belief, though I find the whole god of death thing very fascinating.. But me picturing the owl as a wise old man, is probably just a sign of Disneys brainwash since my early years lol..

This is one of my favourite videos on youtube.. I never get tiered of looking at the beautiful motions of the feathers, as it's coming in for landing and the powerful look of the eyes. Such an amazing creature!!

How do you picture the owl? As a god of death, or a wise old man like I do?;) What is your favourite creature?

Sunday Crafting

Part from a beautiful walk in the snow, Sunday was also spent by my work desk. I finally had some time to sit down with my crafts, it's been my bad conscience for a while now.. But with needle and thread and bent over tiny jewelery parts, I was working on my jewelery and hairpieces all evening. I was able to get through quite a bit and it's all starting to take form. Very satisfying to see that my "baby" growing and getting some flesh on my ideas. As I'm working new ideas spring to my mind, it feels good to be using my imagination.. It feel like it's what I'm supposed to do. I mean use the vivid imagination which I was born with and do something creative with it...

Here's a little taste of what I've been working on.. I'm dying to show off my jewelery designs, but I think it's better to keep it a little secret till the shop and everything is getting more ready;)
