Friday Night on The Whiskey Bar

We're having a relaxing Sunday in the nest,  nothing much going on today.. We're still recovering after our Friday night fun! After a long night out that started around 6 in the afternoon, we took Miss E and a friend home for late night/morning drinks and breakfast..

We invited friends and a few neighbours, for a night on The Whiskey Bar. A small, cozy bar in the old part of town, that we discovered after the Ghost tour last autumn. We've wanted to gather friends for a night out there ever since, we finally got around to do so!

Summery Creations

The last few weeks has brought promises of spring with it.. Today we even had thunder weather here in Oslo! That's something we haven't had for a while.. Also the birds has been singing and the sun has been peeking out for several days. Getting me in mood for spring and giving me some inspiration for more summery fascinators, with soft, happy colors and pretty flowers!

My latest fascinator, is the first one in my spring collection. I ordered up a whole load of yummi, summery spring flowers and will be ordering even more! I've been playing around with them this week, teaming them up into lovely little hairpieces.. Hopefully I'll have time to finish a few up before the end of this week. That way I should be able to show off some stuff to the girls on Los Lobos pretty soon.

All shown with a dotted, cream hat veiling that can be removed..

The two last two were done with more of an autumn feel to them, as that's what I had to work with.. But I think they can be worn any time of the year, just depending on what you wear!

I'm playing with the idea to add a needle behind the small fascinator with the yellow bird, so it can be used as a broche.. What do you think?

Pan's Labyrinth

If you haven't yet seen it, you should! Pan's Labyrinth is a wonderful and touching fairytale fantasy movie from 2006, written and directed Guillermo del Toro. It takes place around the post civil war in Spain, 1944. We meet Ofelia, a young girl who has a big love for fairytales. She moves to the countryside with her pregnant mom. To her sadistic stepfather, a spanish army officer and the father of the unborn child.

On the road to her stepfather, she find an insect. A big stick bug, which she's convinced is a fairy.. The fairy follows her to her new home. An old mill house in the forest, which is also the headquarters of the army and the captain. There is battles going on with the local gerilja, right up the mountain sides and the in the forest outside the area of the headquarters. But there's darker sides to the forest, than what you find on the battle field..

With the help of the fairy, Ofelia discovers an old, eerie looking labyrinth, on the premises of the old mill house. It takes her far down under ground, where she meets a faun.. He tells her she's the reborn princess Moanna of the underground world, but must prove her royalty by surviving three gruesome tasks. If she fails, she will never prove herself to be the the true princess and will never see her real father, the king, again.

Happy Women's Day!!

All you wonderful and beautiful women out there:) And a big thanks to all those women and men, that fought for our rights in the past. That made my life as a woman, as it is today possible!

I'm not going to make this a political blog, but I think it's a very important issue and it still is today.. It's something I think many young girls in the west take for granted.

We have come far when it comes to womens rights in Norway and in many of the western countries. But we shouldn't forget that in many parts of the world, the fight is still going on (and even here).. The fight of equal rights between women and men.

My thoughts today, go to you my sisters. The women that is carrying on the fight of freedom and rights, and a better future for themselfs and their daughters. In parts of the world were they still have a long way to go... Go sista';)

French Roast

An other example of a fantastic short film and great animation!! This time by the french, The Pumpkin Factory. I totally love the humour and the morale of the story.. And it's something about how that begger shakes his cup, all while the flies buzz around his head:)

What do you think?

Love Boat

Part from being in Copenhagen, we also had a wonderful time aboard the ship, on our anniversary trip this week! So good that we hardly slept the whole trip, we probably had around 8 hours of sleep all together, forth and back.. That's usually what I need for one day, or at least 6-7 hours to feel human. No need to say I was pretty tiered when we got back.. We both were. I was really happy I'd been forthseeing enough, to take the next day off!

These boat trips to Denmark is usually a bit like a human study.. There's so many different people aboard and you meet people you normally wouldn't meet back home. We're all stuck on the same boat, so naturally we end up talking and hanging out in the bar, with who ever is there. This time was no different, with everything from suits to industrial workers, a lubricant salesman, farmers and students.. We were quite an odd gang of people and 5 different nationalities:)

And of course of all places, my husband met a fellow american, who were preforming old country and rock music in the bar! Funny part was that he was from Las vegas, were we got married exactly two years ago:) Coincindence?

Elvgren's Cheesecake Sweethearts

Gil Elvgren, the master of cute cheesecake pinup art! Active from the 1930's to the 1970's. Today Elvgren is most famous his pinup calendars for Brown & Bigelow. Among his clients you also find Coca Cola, General Electric and Sealy Mattress Company. During the 1940's and 1950's he illustrated stories for various magazines, like Good Housekeeping and The Saturday Evening Post.

Elvgren's pinups is the innocent girl next door. Some of his most used models, was in fact the daughters of his next door neighbours.. Elvgren described his models as having a fifteen-year-old-face on a twenty-year-old-body. "He also cited the following features: high forehead, long neck, eyes that were set wide apart, small ears, pert nose, great hair, full but not overblown breasts, nice legs and hands, a pinched-in waist and natural grace and poise." For him it was all about having a model which had an expressful face and highly mobile feautures.

I just love'em all, with their sweetness and sexy inocense! It's hard to pick a favourite.. Do you have a favourite?

Here's 10 beautiful sweethearts for you, from the wonderful world of pinup artist Gil Elvgren!
