Happy Birthday to You, Marilyn;)

Born 1. June 1926, our wonderful Marilyn would have been 85 years today, if she was still alive.. Well worth celebrating you ask me, a champagne toast for the lovliest gal!!

The Andrew Weiss gallery has put up an exhibit for the occasion, with the name "Happy Birthday Marilyn". It will be running from 1. June, till 13. August. Go to the Marilyn Monroe Collection Blog, to read more about it;)

50's Censored Commercial

This one seems pretty frisky for it's time, no wonder it was censored.. Not sure if they thought that they would actually let them show this on TV back then when they made it! lol From todays point of view, I think it's not really bad at all, more fun and cute. Something tells me that they would have gotten easier away with it in todays society;) What do you think?

The Queen of Rockabilly

Here's a wonderful piece of rock'n'roll history for you guys! With the song Fujiyama Mama, from the rockabilly queen Wanda Jackson. Isn't she just the best, I love the sound of her voice! It's so raw and powerful!! Just what I need today, after a long day at work and still going on;)

Tell me about your favourite artist, or maybe a favourite tune from the old days?

Wonderful Elizabeth Rosemond Taylor - Rest in Peace

Today we lost a legend, a star and an amazing woman.. Surrounded by her loved ones, Elizabeth died of heart failure, 79 years old. After struggeling with various health problems over the last few years.

And with her one of the last remaining, old classic, glamorous, Hollywood actresses has left us. She will always be remembered as the fantastic actress she was and for her roles in some of the biggest Hallywood movies back in the days. Like Cleopatra, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf and many many more. But also for her devoted work against HIV and AIDS.

How ever you choose to remember her, to me she's without doubt one of the most beautiful and captivating women of the 50's and 60's. She was a vibrant person with an amazing spark and expression in her eyes, she also seemed to be very passionate about life!

No wonder men seemed to fall on their knees where ever she set her foot.. With 8 Marriages behind her and 7 different husbands, I truly believe that she lived life to the fullest and gave a damn what people thought. I love her for that!

Tuesday Thrift Treasures

Me and my love went on a little thrift shopping this week. I was lucky enough to get Tuesday off from work, since I worked double shift on Monday. I had to step in for my colleague that were sick.. We went to a big thriftstore on the other side of town, I've wanted to take my my man there for ages, but never got the finger out. Like with everything else, it seems like it takes some time from thinking about it, to actually doing so..

Nothing special that we really needed, but a few things that I wanted. Among those, I've wanted to change out the Marilyn Monroe lamp that I made many years ago. That is if my husband alouds me, he want us to keep Marilyn up.. We'll see, what happends.

Hanging upside down on the wall of one of the store owners, I found a cool 50's lamp! I also found some cute, grandma' looking shades way in the back. I had to climb over a small mountain of vintage to get to them. But it was all worth it! Some holes here and there and a bit discolored, but that's the charm;) Best of all, the lady said that she might have an other one for me, I'll be calling her back next week to see if she found it! Yay!!

I also found a few other goodies, that you can see below. A couple of clothes brushes, one which is in silver that I got a real good deal on. He didn't see the silver stamp before after. Also a couple of wine bottle openers from the 20's-30's:)

Some photos from one of the stores. It is all crammed from floor to roof with old war effects and quriosities! And going in there is allmost like visiting a war museum, without the signs that explain what everything is.. I love old uniforms, so I'm pretty much in heaven when there:)

Friday Tune - Red Hot

An other Friday tune coming your way, here from Scary Mary's. This time I'm giving you Billy Lee Riley with Red Hot, a steaming hot rock'n'roll song from the mid 50's! It seems impossible to sit still when I hear this, it makes me wanna dance around on the floor like a nutcase. Who cares if the neighbours can see me?

Friday is slowly ticking over into Saturday in my part of the world, while some of you still have some hours left. Where ever you are and what ever you are doing, I wish you a great Friday and what's left of it;)

Elvgren's Cheesecake Sweethearts

Gil Elvgren, the master of cute cheesecake pinup art! Active from the 1930's to the 1970's. Today Elvgren is most famous his pinup calendars for Brown & Bigelow. Among his clients you also find Coca Cola, General Electric and Sealy Mattress Company. During the 1940's and 1950's he illustrated stories for various magazines, like Good Housekeeping and The Saturday Evening Post.

Elvgren's pinups is the innocent girl next door. Some of his most used models, was in fact the daughters of his next door neighbours.. Elvgren described his models as having a fifteen-year-old-face on a twenty-year-old-body. "He also cited the following features: high forehead, long neck, eyes that were set wide apart, small ears, pert nose, great hair, full but not overblown breasts, nice legs and hands, a pinched-in waist and natural grace and poise." For him it was all about having a model which had an expressful face and highly mobile feautures.

I just love'em all, with their sweetness and sexy inocense! It's hard to pick a favourite.. Do you have a favourite?

Here's 10 beautiful sweethearts for you, from the wonderful world of pinup artist Gil Elvgren!

Melamine Heaven

I love the nostalgic feeling of melamine kitchen wear, not to mention the lovely candy colors! I have some proud examples on my kitchen shelf already.. Reproductions, but very pretty:) It doesn't stop me dreaming of a whole vintage set of cups and plates, in a soft robins egg blue or turqouise color..

Here's a few melamine delights that's just waiting to be picked up.. Maybe you'll find a favourite among these goodies!

Sweet Friday Finds

An other friday, an other week of finds! I bring you some more lovely vintage finds, from my favourites on Etsy.. Maybe you'll discover something you didn't know you needed, I do all the time;)

I love'em all, but I especially love the stool and the juice machine! But how the h*** to get them shipped to Norway? It would probably cost more than it taste.. *Argh* I hate to say it, but I know my bank account would most definitely be better off with that cute, little apron... Which one is your favourite?

Happy Jolly Friday everyone!!;)

Get That Vavavoom Waist!

How to get that hourglass shaped waist, that you see on the photos of the glam kittens back in the days? A girl might need some help sometimes.. Just like they needed back then. Especially under those sexy, but tight wiggle dresses and playsuits! Why not complete the pinup look with some gorgeous waist cinchers, which also keeps the tummy flat all evening. If you're like me, you don't like to skip a meal, just to make sure that the tummy won't poof!

Check out these lovely waist cinchers from BabygirlBoutique.. They'll make sure that the waist is cinched and the tummy is tucked all eve. Not to mention, no annoying line from your panties around the waist under that hot dress;)

The Perfect Vintage Dress

I've been trying to find THE vintage dress for some time now, but allways find that they are way to tiny for me. Seems like the girls were just so much smaller back then.. It's the same with a lot of the vintage clothes out there. Everything cute, with a waist and arms.. Leaving me to feel like Big Foot or a tall warrior amazone, desperately wanting to fit into a childs dress at the best:/

I don't have a 25" waist and will never get it, also there's no choice starving myself for it. I don't want to look like a walking skeleton, even if it means that I can wear pretty dresses. Not a bad word about skeltons though, I love skeltons! Where's is a good, old, deasant, Alice shrink tonic when a gal needs it?

But there is hope, even for tall girls like me.. Some time ago I came across a shop on Ebay, Dressit which can tailor any dress for you. All you need is a photo of it. The best part is that it doesn't cost more than what a nice dress would cost if you buy it in a regular store!

The seller is top rated on Ebay. After reading the customer reviews, I also feel confident that they know what they are doing and that they deliver quality dresses. They have plenty of satisfied customers to show to, which should make it pretty safe to order from them in my oppinion. There's allways a risk by ordering online, but I think it's well worth it as I can get something I wouldn't be able to get otherwise!

What is you experience with vintage clothes? Have you found that perfect vintage dress yet??

Here's some gorgeous vintage dresses from my wish list, that I'll sadly never fit into, but to drool over! Most of them from the fabelous Etsy store, Timeless Vixen. A store packed with beautiful vintage dresses. And also from Thirteen Bees Vintage:
